WFSU Public Media, located in Tallahassee, FL, is a licensee of Florida State University and the NPR and PBS affiliate for approximately 25 counties in North Florida serving Tallahassee, Panama City, and Thomasville, GA. WFSU is dedicated to educating, informing, and enlightening our viewers and listeners from preschool through retirement. Our focus on literacy and civic engagement improves the quality of life for all the residents of our service area.

Responsibilities

Assist the Education & Outreach Department with organizing materials, packing and working hands-on with young children, families and teachers with a variety of PBS/WFSU Programs, including (but not limited to) afterschool classes, workshops, summer camps, special events in schools and assistance with special outreach community events. We work primarily with PreK – 3rd grade, their families and teachers with the majority of our projects.
Assist in creating educational, PBS KIDS-oriented curriculum for programs and professional development. Willing to travel to surrounding counties to implement programs at schools outside of Leon County. Security clearance is required by both FSU and the many school districts we work with.
Maintain inventory lists of WFSU Educational materials, in relationship to our programs and camps. This maybe materials, camp lists, assessment materials etc. (books, DVD’s, stickers etc.)
Assist with mailing projects and/or prepare items to go out to schools and individuals, may include the delivery of these items to various schools and educational entities and partners.
Assist with special events ranging in attendance from 10 to 3,000! Creating and implementing hands-on science, literacy and math activities, coordinating volunteers, creating gift baskets, student rewards and more. No day is ever the same at WFSU!
Answer phone (respond to inquiries), make copies, maintain files and help with general organization.
Assist with event set-up and take-down as needed.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of experience working with children in a professional setting.
Ability to meet the physical demands of this position to include lifting/moving up to 25 pounds and assist with event set up/break down.
Must be comfortable driving and traveling during evening and weekend shifts as needed.
Must be comfortable working with children (Primarily PreK-3rd grade level), teachers and their families.
Must have good computer skills and be comfortable with social media tools.
Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Must be willing and able to wear a costume of a WFSU/PBS character – it’s an extra bonus to be Super Why! or The Cat in the Hat!
Must have a valid Florida or Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to hire.

Preferred

Experience with writing, creativity and theatre skills is a plus.
Editing experience or an interest in Editing is welcomed.

Anticipated Salary Range

Hourly Rate will range between $10-15.00/hour based on experience and qualifications.

Pay Plan

This is an OPS/temporary Job.

Schedule

This a part time OPS Position consisting of approx.15-25 hours per week. Hours are flexible but need to be consistent on a weekly basis. This position does include some weekend/evening work as well as some driving/travel to local areas and surrounding counties.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting.
