Production Team Members @ Southeast Review

The Southeast Review is looking to hire for their Production Team. They are holding an Informational Meeting on Sept 1 @ 2:30 in the Williams Bldg – 4th floor’s Skybox.

The production team will meet every semester to discuss the production schedule. The production team’s time-frame preferences regarding production are the utmost preference and priority.

  • The production team works together to put together the two print issues per year based on the templates that have been handed down
  • Print production requires use of the Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop. Applicants will either have knowledge of these programs or a willingness and desire to learn.
  • The production team works longer hours, mid-semester, once all materials from the section editors have been submitted.
  • Production work requires attention to detail, creative approaches to problems, and an eye for design.
  • In circumstances where there are three Production Team members, one team member may help with inputting the online biannual edition, alongside the Online Editor and EiC
  • Maintains Production Gmail account.
  • Trains incoming Production Editors and Assistant Production Editors
  • As SER masthead members, the production team will also be involved in the following…
    • Helps proof biannual galleys before publication
    • Volunteers and helps at annual fundraisers, AWP, and Word of South, and helps provide material for Writer’s Regimen
    • Helps individually promote SER print launches, SER Online releases, the annual fundraiser, Writer’s Regimen, and AWP events on social media
    • Attends semesterly information meeting and masthead meetings

Section Editors (Poetry, Fiction, Nonfiction)

  • Propose work for in-print and online publication based on: 1) The production calendar, and 2) The allotted page count as specified under “Documented Processes and Systems: Accepting Works for Publication in the Biannual”
  • Select pieces from the slush pile on Submittable as well as through solicitation (see: “Documented Processes and Systems: Solicitation”). Maintain a balance between slush and solicitation, as well as diversity among published writers.
  • Coordinate selections for SER Online with the Online Editor. Each section has access to the online calendar. For more information on online publication procedures, see: “Documented Processes and Systems: Accepting Works for Publication on SER Online.”
  • Inform authors (sends them the link) when their SER Online pieces go online. Promote authors and their SER Online pieces on social media.
  • Maintain respective Gmail accounts.
  • Decide on the division of responsibility between members of their team.
  • Keep track of contributor successes and inform the EIC or Interns about these successes
  • With the rest of the masthead, proof galleys before publication.
  • Volunteers and helps at annual fundraisers, AWP, and Word of South, and helps provide material for Writer’s Regimen
  • Promote SER print launches, SER Online releases, the annual fundraiser, Writer’s Regimen, and AWP events on social media.
  • Attend semesterly information meeting and masthead meetings
  • Consult the EiC and AE if any concerns arise.
  • Trains incoming Section Editors and Assistant Section Editors
