Undergraduate or Graduate, Public Relations Intern

 

Job Description

The Disney Interactive public relations team is looking for a dynamic undergraduate or graduate level intern to join the team for 6 months between August 2012 – January 2013. The intern would jump in right away by assisting the team which oversees and manages product public relations efforts for the segment’s video game, online, mobile and social games businesses, along with corporate and internal communications for the segment.

Qualified candidates will upload their resumes and be able to articulate how their experiences make them the most qualified for the position!

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain media lists and other databases.
• Oversee coverage reports and track upcoming placements.
• Assist in the writing, development and dissemination of press materials including media alerts, press kits, fact sheets and media pitches.
• Organize and maintain asset databases and disseminate to media and international territory PR leads.
• Facilitate logistics and compile briefing books for press tours, events and trade shows.
• Conduct media and Internet research as needed.
• Provide on-site assistance at media events and assist with product demos.
• Monitor industry news for relevant happenings and share with internal teams.
• Track and fulfill reporter product requests.
• Provide proactive updates to team members on project status and articulate requirements to complete tasks.
• Support internal communications and employee engagement programs.
• Conduct reporter follow-up and outreach as necessary.
• Create PowerPoint and Keynote presentations as needed.
• Assist with social public relations initiatives.
Basic Qualifications

• Have had previous internships in public relations or communications.
• Very well organized and energetic, with attention to detail and ability to learn quickly.
• Excellent writing, copywriting, proofreading, publishing and editing skills.
• Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Creative and strategic thinker who can add value to projects.
• Able to effectively juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
• Transition easily from working as a team player to working independently.
• Passion for technology, entertainment and gaming.
• Demonstrate the ability to undertake basic public relations writing assignments and possess an understanding of basic media relations skills.
• Experience with photo editing, design and presentation software including Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint and Keynote.

Required Education

• In progress with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or related field or graduated within the past 12 months.
Additional Information

– Fully qualified candidates must be available to work for 6 months beginning in August 2012
– Candidates must be able to provide their own housing and transportation in the Palo Alto(Silicon Valley / outside San Francisco) area.
