Position Details

As the only Washington, DC-based think tank that actively promotes bipartisanship, BPC works to address the key challenges facing the nation. Our policy solutions are the product of expert analysis and informed deliberations by former elected and appointed officials, business and labor leaders, and advocates who represent multiple perspectives on key policy issues. We are currently focused on energy, health, the economy, education, immigration, infrastructure, and governance.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Communications Assistant will be responsible for drafting press releases, media advisories, e-newsletters, blog posts, and other forms of written communications as needed. The successful candidate will also manage and maintain press lists for the organization. Job duties will include but not be limited to:

 

  • Draft, edit, and distribute press correspondence
  • Manage and maintain press lists
  • Field and manage a high volume of media requests
  • Help to proactively pitch and book interviews for BPC project leadership and senior staff
  • Develop relationship with regional and national reporters
  • Act as liaison between the communications team and various departments
  • Research and monitor the news to contribute to the news cycle
  • Interact with the digital team to drive media messages
  • Staff BPC project leadership and senior staff for interviews and appearances

 

Qualifications and experience:

 

  • BA, BS in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field preferred
  • Expertise in dealing with reporters and high-level principals
  • The ideal candidate will also have experience and capacity in social and digital media
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills, sound judgment when working with the media, and ability to produce high-quality work under deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team and independently
  • Initiative and a high level of attention to detail while also managing multiple tasks
  • Experience with Cision or other media contact databases and monitoring services
