Director of Communication

Brookwood School is an independent, coeducational, college-preparatory day school in Thomasville, Georgia, which offers a superior educational opportunity to qualified students. Founded in 1970, Brookwood enrolls approximately 500 students, drawing students from four counties in Southwest Georgia and two counties in North Florida. We have an opening for an experienced Director of Communications starting July 1, 2014. This individual will be responsible for coordinating the writing, editing, graphic design, photography, advertising and printing needs for the school; overseeing the school’s website and digital and social media; coordinating and supporting all internal communication needs; and directing the school’s external marketing efforts, including media and public relations.

This person will serve as member of the advancement team, which is overseen and coordinated by the Director of Advancement, in creating the Strategic Marketing and Communications plan for the School including specific goals, actions plans and benchmarks for success. The Director of Communications will implement all aspects of the school’s strategic communications program focused on enhancing the visibility and public perception of the school.
The ideal candidate candidates will have:
 B.A. in Marketing, Communications or related discipline.
 5-7 years experience in marketing, communications or public relations, preferably in a school environment.
 Superior writing skills with an emphasis on creativity, appropriate “voice” and attention to detail.
 Proficiency in publication design, including use of design software, photo editing software and website management, including use of HTML.
 A strong knowledge and proven track-record in social media and new media use and outcomes.
 A keen eye for photo composition and framing for publications and advertising.
 An interest in attending and photographing school events.
 Demonstrated proficiency with the Adobe Suite software.
 Excellent oral communications skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school.
 Openness and amenability to living in the small-town environment of Thomasville.
