Hofstra University School of Communication seeks a Director of Web and Digital Media, reporting directly to the Dean of the School of Communication. The ideal candidate would have expertise in the use of Web-centric hardware and software as well as a strong knowledge of digital media workflows in standard platforms utilized in radio, television, film, print, and online.
The Director of Web and Digital Media will help guide the school’s acquisition of Web-related hardware and software, work closely with faculty to strengthen the Web components of our existing courses and assist in the development of new Web components for courses in the school. He/she will also work with faculty and other Hofstra personnel to help explore and develop Distance Learning opportunities. The candidate will be tasked with expanding the online presence of the School of Communication and its departments, programs, a co-curricular activities, and with developing new Web initiatives.
This position will routinely work with in-house technical staff and University’s IT Department to find cost-effective solutions to the challenges of further developing the School’s Web presence and will be expected to specify and integrate new Web technologies such as video streaming, webcasting, and digital production workflows. The Director of Web and Digital Media will also serve as primary liaison between the School of Communication and the Hofstra University Web and IT teams.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required and at least three years relevant experience in digital media. The successful candidate should have administrative experience, preferably in an academic setting, working with faculty and a technical professional staff. Excellent communication skills and familiarity with all aspects of publishing to the Web are essential. Additional experience in Social Media management and analytics, WordPress, cPanel, Web Host Manager (WHM), and an understanding of programming languages such as HTML, HTML5, and CSS. Additional working knowledge of graphic design, video codecs, and digital non-linear editing (specifically Internet distribution workflows), are a plus.
