Media Specialist

The Oglesby Union offers an OPS Undergraduate Student Media Assistant position for a qualified student working towards a degree in an appropriate area of specialization (Communications, Media Production, Media/Communication Studies, Marketing, Advertising, etc.).

The undergraduate media assistant will work with the Oglesby Union electronic media specialist to communicate the mission and market the programs and services of the Oglesby Union through the use of internet and media technologies, particularly social media. The candidate should be familiar with or take an interest in learning social media best practices (Facebook & Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc.), editing digital photos, editing video, and basic HTML/CSS. Some of the tasks and expectations of the media assistant include, but are not limited to the following:
• The media assistant will work under the direction and supervision of the media specialist in updating content on various Union and Student Affairs social media outlets
• The media assistant must be able to follow instructions, adhere to policy guidelines.
• The media assistant will capture and edit photographs and video for use on social media and websites.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Assist with managing Union and Student Affairs events on university calendaring system.
• Work under the direction and supervision of the media specialist in updating content on various Union-sponsored websites using Adobe Dreamweaver, ezPublish or WordPress.
• Assist with developing social media marketing campaigns and information resources, and methods for integrating social media in Union and Student Affairs sites.

The undergraduate media assistant should have some familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Facebook, and Twitter. Some experience with editing digital video (iMovie, Final Cut, etc.) and basic knowledge of HTML would be helpful. The undergraduate student assistant should be comfortable working with Macintosh and PC computers. Experience with graphic design and knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Fireworks and InDesign is a plus, but not necessary.

The undergraduate media assistant must be able to interact and communicate well with other students and represent the department to campus and non-campus groups effectively.
This position is for 10-20 hours per week, at $7.79/hr.
