A FLORENCE INTERNSHIP, academic year 2010-2011 and
Two LONDON INTERNSHIPS, January-June 2010
These internships offer students the opportunity to earn credits while getting to know the culture, customs, and history of another country.
The FSU FLORENCE LIBRARY INTERNSHIP
One internship is available in the FSU Florence Library for the academic year 2010-2011 with a focus on Library and Information Studies.
Because of Italian visa regulations, appointment to the 2010-2011 Florence Internship position must be made by December 1, 2009, and processed in the spring of 2010.
The successful applicant will get valuable work experience, one year free accommodation in central Florence, a stipend to cover essential costs, free online tuition, and the opportunity to take part in free or subsidized FSU trips to in Italy.
Telephone interviews with Florence staff will be scheduled for late October, with a view to complete the appointment of the intern by the beginning of 2010.
Dates of Internship. Late August 2010 until early August 2011.
General Requirements. The supervisory position requires substantial course work toward completion of either the MLIS or the Specialist Post-master’s degree in LIS plus some practical experience and a GPA of 3.0 or higher. For students with no experience, a practicum may be required before a position is offered.
Students selected for these positions are expected to follow all the steps for obtaining a general internship. These include the procedures below and completion of assignments and final evaluations as part of the internship course LIS 5945 in which they will be enrolled.
Procedures.

- A current resume.
- An unofficial transcript of CI studies.
- A brief statement of between 500-1000 words about why you have an interest in an internship in the Florence library position and contributions you think you will make to this internship site.

Two LONDON STUDY CENTER INTERNSHIPS
One internship focuses on library and information studies. The other focuses on Information Technology Administration.
Because of immigration requirements, applications must be processed as soon as possible. Application deadline: September 18.
All applicants must have a valid passport through 2010 and will be required to apply for an entry clearance visa immediately upon acceptance. This process will require submission of biometric data. FSU International Programs will provide guidance on the visa process upon acceptance.
The successful applicants will be provided with a comprehensive academic experience in which classroom learning will be complemented by a part-time work placement, six months free shared accommodation in central London, a stipend to cover essential costs, free online tuition and the opportunity to take part in free or subsidized FSU trips to England and Europe. Students are required to take the 3-credit internship course LIS 5945 or LIS 4940 in the summer and fall. In the fall, students must take an additional 3-credit course for a total of 6 credit hours.
Undergraduates, if selected, may take one 3-credit campus-based course in London. Graduate students may take an asynchronous CCI course or a DIS. Students will work 20 hours per week in the library and spend equal amount of time on course work.
Dates
The program lasts for six months from December 2009, until June 2010. For the library position, applicants must be in CCI/SLIS.
Undergraduate IT students will be considered for the IT position. Applicants must be enrolled at FSU Fall 2009.
Applications will be reviewed by the SLIS Information Internship Director and the Director of SLIS in consultation with other faculty. Telephone interviews with London staff also will be scheduled.

Financial Aid Students
Keep in mind those stipulations of receiving financial aid when you consider if this internship is suitable for your current situation. There is a time difference of five hours between FSU’s main campus and London. If you are signed up for courses this summer you may need to reconsider whether these courses are feasible with the requirement of the internship course and the time difference
