IT Operations Support Technician

Department – Northwest Regional Data Center

Responsibilities

Answer all incoming calls to the data center and help solve customer problems over the phone.  Route customer problems to the appropriate staff member or department. Monitor environmental systems and building security. Notify appropriate personnel in the event of an equipment failure or breach of security. Assist customers while on-site. Insure all visitors are logged in and out of the building. Work with vendors and data center personnel to resolve hardware and software problems.Other duties as needed. Participates in approved professional development opportunities per NWRDC’s policy. Professional development and training is defined as learning undertaken by the employee to maintain and advance their skills, knowledge and competencies, specifically as they relate and add value to the job and workplace.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency and three years experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to three years.

Ability to communicate effectively with customers and vendors in solving hardware and software problems.

Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.

Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.

Knowledge of computer operations, functions, and related peripherals.

Knowledge of computer room environmental equipment

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Problem solving skills.

A willingness to learn the technical skills needed to monitor our data center systems.

Preferred

Good all-around computer skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel).
Experience in customer service.
Skills in following verbal and written instructions of a technical nature.

Pay Plan

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.

Schedule

Thursday/Friday 3pm-11pm  Saturday/Sunday 7am-7pm

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
