Working Title: LIBRARIAN

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This is professional work providing circulation, research and information services and assisting in the acquisition or organization and use of library materials within the Division of Library & Information Services/Bureau of Library & Network Services/State Library and is responsible for, including but not limited to, the following duties:

Promotes, coordinates and supports awareness of State Library services to state agency employees though direct contacts by mail, phone and in person, and through webinars, social media and other types of outreach activities.

Provides complex reference and research services as requested by state agency personnel and the general public by phone, letter, interlibrary loan, electronic means and in person. Provides on-line searches of multiple database services for bibliographic citations and full text on subjects requested by library patrons. Assists users in research directing their use of multiple sources and collections. Utilizes materials in all formats from all collections. Keeps appropriate statistics regarding usage of collection.

Coordinates the development of the Florida Collection in accordance with the Collection Development Policy. This includes assisting in processing donations, acquisition and processing of new materials, and creating and maintaining indexes and bibliographies as needed.

Responsible for gathering and compiling data for the user satisfaction survey completed both in person and electronically by library patrons according to established methods and procedures.

Reviews, evaluates and selects materials in assigned areas in accordance with the Collection Development Policy.

Performs other related duties as requested.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A Master’s degree in library science from a program accredited by the American Library Association and one year of professional or non-professional library experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of social media.

Ability to communicate to various groups through presentations.

Knowledge of standard and specialized research tools.

Ability to evaluate and make recommendations about the selection of library material and equipment.
