Description

The Mississippi Library Commission seeks a creative and innovative librarian who can blend traditional library services with 21st Century Emerging Technologies.  The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, innovative, and very public service oriented.  The Library Consultant position provides an opportunity to effect change in public library services on a state-wide level.

 

The Mississippi Library Commission offers strong support for professional development and involvement.  Housed in a state of the art facility completed in 2005, the Mississippi Library Commission recently received a Design for Decades: Civic Buildings award from the American Institute of Architects.

 

Responsibilities

Work actively with public libraries throughout the state providing advice on public library services, policies, and management issues.  The consultant also provides training to public library staff members, and assists public libraries with the development and implementation of progressive and emerging library services.

 

Requirements

MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited college or university plus three years library experience. (Experience may be paraprofessional. Public library experience preferred.) The successful candidate will have to obtain a Mississippi driver’s license. The position requires some travel throughout the state to perform onsite visits with public libraries.

 

Salary & Benefits

Start salary: $33,875.47 annually + state benefits including 10 state holidays, participation in the Public Employees Retirement System, health and life insurance, and a generous leave package.
