Library Director – Saluda County

Job Description   
The Saluda County Library Board of Trustees seeks a new Library Director to build on our past successes and lead our library to new levels of excellence. The Director will work with the Board to determine the strategic direction for the library, will represent the library in the local and regional community, and will develop new library programs and innovative technologies. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, experience in budget development and management, and be responsive to the needs of the staff and patrons. Duties include but are not limited to planning, coordinating, and supervising the Saluda County Library System, including administrative and financial responsibility, and is responsible to the Saluda County Library Board for implementing policies and services.

The Saluda County Library is housed in a historic building in the city of Saluda, the heart of a small county in central South Carolina. The annual budget is $180,000 and the staff consists of 4 FTE. Approximately half of the population are card-holding library patrons. Named for the beautiful little river that winds through it, Saluda County is a short drive from the capital city of Columbia yet retains its historic and peaceful rural character. The library provides strong children’s programs and candidates must show a willingness to maintain and expand these services. There is an active Friends group.

Qualifications     
Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from a graduate library program accredited by the American Library Association and at least one year of professional library experience, preferably in a public library, and with some administrative and/or managerial/supervisory experience in almost any field of endeavor. Must be eligible for or possess a professional certificate from the SC State Library and must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
