Marketing & Reference Librarian

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Library seeks a reference librarian responsible for developing and coordinating communications and promotional materials to enhance internal and external relations and broad-based community awareness of the UAMS Library. We are looking for a creative, proactive, service-oriented person with an interest in using marketing and graphic design skills in a library setting. A successful candidate will use social media tools to promote library programs and services both on and off campus. Reference services are provided to UAMS faculty, students, and staff via traditional and emerging technologies. This position reports directly to the Head of Education & Reference Services.
As part of the Education & Reference Services (E&RS) Department, the marketing librarian will provide reference and instructional services to the UAMS faculty, students, and staff using print, electronic and web-based information resources.  This librarian will be a member of the Education, Liaison, Outreach and Web Services Teams and will contribute to departmental and library-wide programs for promoting and evaluating services and resources. In conjunction with the other librarians, the marketing librarian will conduct research and evaluation, user surveys, focus groups, and/or benchmarking studies. The marketing librarian will participate in outreach activities, such as exhibits, to increase awareness of resources and services and to enhance the image and visibility of the library. LIBRARY SETTING

The E&RS Department is a team of five librarians and one paraprofessional directly reporting to the Head of Education and Reference Services. This reference position participates in coverage of daily reference activities including providing one-on-one end user education, teaching classes, answering reference questions, and providing assistance with basic literature searching.

All reference librarians participate in departmental activities and act as a library liaison to an academic department. They also serve on library, university, professional and/or public service committees.

CAMPUS Setting
Founded in 1879, UAMS is the only academic health sciences center in Arkansas.  The UAMS Library supports the education, clinical, research, and outreach activities of six colleges (Graduate School, Health Related Professions, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health), a comprehensive medical center, and several institutes of excellence.  The UAMS Library also serves as the only resource library in the state for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.  Faculty, staff, and students work and study in a stimulating and culturally diverse environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

  • American Library Association (ALA)-accredited master’s degree
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • experience utilizing social media applications and innovative communication technologies
  • ability to make clear, concise presentations in a professional manner
  • ability to work well independently, as part of a team, and as the leader of a team
  • commitment to providing high-quality customer service

Preferred:

  • 2 years or more of professional experience in providing reference services in an academic or health sciences library
  • experience providing marketing services in a library setting including promotion of library programs on extended campuses or to the community
  • demonstrated ability to create successful marketing plans and to design promotional materials, coordinate work flows, and implement projects
  • experience teaching and/or making public presentations
  • experience with technical writing and ability to teach technical writing classes
  • experience using image-editing software, graphics programs and desktop publishing
  • demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and participation in professional activities
  • experience with evaluation and assessment of library resources and services
  • familiarity with biomedical resources and databases

Position Benefits and Application Information

Minimum salary is $42,500, commensurate with education and experience. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment with a competitive benefits package with 22 days of vacation, 11 holidays, and 12 days sick leave annually, and retirement plan options including TIAA/CREF and Fidelity.
