Media Specialist @ WFSU-TV

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the project team to coordinate the development, production, and delivery of TikTok/Reels content supporting the overall goals and objectives of the initiative. The candidate will work closely with content, digital, and education leadership.
  • Establishes project-based relationships with local high schools and programs for teens, including working closely with community partners.
  • Produces or manages production of at least 3 TikTok/Reels videos each week that adhere to project templates and appeals to youth audiences
  • Creates content for social video-forward platforms
  • Creates, maintains, and consistently uploads content to the station’s project-dedicated TikTok channel and Instagram page
  • Identifies emerging trends, opportunities, and influential content creators on TikTok/Instagram focused on careers, jobs, and pathways to employment
  • Attends weekly meetings with partner station Social Video Specialists to share successes, best practices, and advice
  • Provides internal updates on performance metrics and assists in drafting regular updates and reports for project funder.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years working in digital video production or social media content creation; or a high school diploma/equivalency and six years of experience in the same areas.
(Note: a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to six years in the same areas.)

  • Experience publishing on with social media platforms (Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, etc.)
  • Ability to stay current with fast-changing social media trends.
  • Are you a creative thinker who can look at current platform trends and find innovative ways to tell a story in a digital video.
  • Ability to provide samples or a portfolio of created social media video content.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels within an organization.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Google Analytics, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of digital metrics and working with key performance indicators.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and special events as necessary.

Preferred

Applicants with experience in content production for young people, promotions, digital design, education, or social improvement projects are strongly encouraged to apply.

WFSU Public Media will soon be launching American Graduate: Jobs Explained, a digital content initiative that will leverage public media’s unique local/national infrastructure to expose high school students in our area to tools and resources that will help them discover well-paying, in-demand careers, and industries which may not require traditional educational pathways.

Jobs Explained goals are to:

  • Expose teens to in-demand careers and industries identified by the US and State Departments of Labor that provide opportunities for advancement, training, and a livable wage
  • Reach teens on the social media platforms where they most frequently consume content, including TikTok & Instagram Reels
  • Support the community by addressing local employment needs, with public media stations working as trusted conveners, storytellers, and leaders
  • Enhance existing workforce development initiatives and build on the success of previous public media workforce development initiatives;
  • Empower public media stations to embrace new production models and digital platforms to create content for, with, and by youth
  • Create sustained impact and transformation by connecting students, employers, and workforce development programs
