The FIU Libraries seek a knowledgeable, innovative, collaborative individual for the position of Associate Dean for Technical Services, responsible for leading the Technical Services Departments consisting of Cataloging, Acquisitions, Serials, and Electronic Resources. As part of the Administrative Team, the AD for Technical Services participates actively in strategic conversations spanning areas of library operations, thinking broadly and collaboratively to produce initiatives that support student learning, faculty teaching, and research; increase operational effectiveness, and achieve alignment with University goals and objectives. This administrator provides vision and leadership for a comprehensive collection and research support strategy, oversees the management of the library’s strategic resource budgeting process, and the development, management, and preservation of the Libraries’ collections. This position guides the development and application of analytical methods to assess and describe trends in collections expenditures and use. This position provides strategic leadership and management for the planning, design, implementation, and operation of technical services and systems, including the Libraries’ cloud-based online catalog and its component parts. Further, this position plans, develops and assesses cataloging & metadata operations, procedures, services, and activities in all formats, with a particular focus on streamlining workflows between Acquisitions, Serials, Electronic Resources, and Cataloging. Working with the Digital Collection Center to optimize discovery and data syndication across search platforms, as well as coordination of staff expertise, presents significant opportunities for collaboration. The AD for Technical Services represents the Libraries’ collection interests in the state, regional, and national collaboratives, including the Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative, the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries, the Center for Research Libraries, and HathiTrust.
