JOB SUMMARY
This position performs patron support, cataloging, and other duties in support of library operations.
MAJOR DUTIES
Assists patrons at the circulation desk; checks materials in and out; pulls reserve books; provides information and customer service; collects overdue fines. Performs collection development duties; reviews and evaluates materials for acquisition; processes and catalogs new acquisitions. Processes Interlibrary Loans; assists students and faculty with locating resources. Develops and presents classes on information literacy, library instruction, and technology use. Assists patrons in locating information. Serves as liaison between the library and the faculty; coordinates faculty recommendations for the acquisition of new print or electronic resources. Coordinates reserve textbook functions. Creates library displays. Supervises the work of student workers. Evaluates materials for discarding. Shelves books and materials. Represents the library on various local, state and regional committees. Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of college policies and procedures. Knowledge of library policies and procedures. Knowledge of customer service principles. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in the use of computers and job related software programs. Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Library Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include US copyright law; OCLC cataloging standards; the college Classified Personnel Handbook; and American Library Association and Association of College and Research Libraries standards. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied administrative and customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to assist with the operations of the Bainbridge State College library. Success in this position results in the provision of quality library services to college students, faculty and staff.
CONTACTS
Contacts are typically with co-workers, faculty, staff, students, community patrons, representatives of other libraries, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, and distinguishes between shades of color. The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Earned Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited university. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
