Librarian @ Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services Bureau of Library and Network Services

This position is within the Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services, State Library of Florida requiring an enthusiasm for customer service and a love of history.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is professional work within the Division of Library and Information Services responsible for, including but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Promotes, coordinates and supports awareness of State Library services to state agency employees and other constituents though direct contacts by mail, phone and in person, and through webinars, social media and other types of outreach activities.
  • Provides complex reference and research services as requested by state agency personnel and the general public by phone, letter, interlibrary loan, electronic means and in person. Conducts comprehensive research. Assists users in research, directing their use of multiple sources and collections. Utilizes materials in all formats from all collections. Keeps appropriate statistics regarding usage of collection.
  • Acts as the Florida Collection Librarian. Coordinates the development and visibility of that collection. Identifies and processes donations and new a materials. Creates and maintains indexes and bibliographies. Trains staff in regards to the collection and promotes this valuable resource.
  • Fosters partnerships between the State Library and the other divisions of the Department of State as well as with outside entities.
  • Reviews, evaluates and selects materials in assigned areas in accordance with the Collection Development Policy.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in library science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of professional library experience

 

Preferences:

  • Experience providing reference and research services to library users.
  • Recent experience communicating to various groups through presentations.
  • Recent experience communicating to various groups through social media.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of social media.
  • Ability to communicate to various groups through presentations.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of library and information science.
  • Ability to provide reference and research services to library users.
  • Ability to evaluate and make recommendations about the selection of library material and equipment.
  • Willingness to push loaded book trucks.
  • Occasional weekend work
