Library Supervisor @ Department of State Division of Library and Information Services Bureau of Library and Network Services

This position is within the Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services, State Library of Florida requiring an enthusiasm for customer service and a love of history.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is professional work within the Division of Library and Information Services responsible for, including but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Responsible for managing the State Library’s materials book budget as well as all of the associated collection development and acquisitions activities.
  • Supervises and manages the operation of the activities and staff of the Library Lending Section. This includes statistics, narrative reports, performance appraisals, development of performance expectations, position descriptions, recruitment and disciplinary actions.
  • Provides complex reference and research services as requested by state agency personnel and the general public by phone, letter, interlibrary loan, electronic means and in person. Conducts comprehensive research. Assists users in research, directing their use of multiple sources and collections. Utilizes materials in all formats from all collections. Keeps appropriate statistics regarding usage of collection.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education/Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in library science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • At least two years of professional library experience

 

Preferences:

  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in acquisitions or collection development.
  • Experience providing reference and research services to library users.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of library and information science.
  • Ability to provide reference and research services to library users.
  • Ability to evaluate and make recommendations about the selection of library material and equipment.
  • Ability to work with and balance budgets.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Knowledge of automated library systems and ability to work with a variety of computer applications.
  • Ability to perform extended data entry, lift and process boxes of books that may weigh up to 20 pounds, bend and reach to shelve materials, climb and descend stairs.
  • Willingness to push loaded book trucks.
