Summary:
The purpose of our Media Specialist position is to participate as a part of the school’s instructional team to insure an integrated media program is effectively managed, instructionally and technologically relevant and accessible to all.
Greenville County School District is looking for the following qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Library Science/Masters in Library and Information Science
• Completion of an advanced program approved by the State Board of Education for the preparation of media specialist or school library media specialist
• Minimum qualifying score(s) on the area examination(s) required by the State Board of Education or receives certification through the reciprocal certification agreement
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
Responsibilities:
• Develops, plans, and implements effective use of emerging instructional and informational technologies in the management of the media center program;
• Plans with administration, teachers, students for the integration, promotion, and use of the media center services and materials within the school’s instructional program;
• Instructs and assists students and teachers in using, producing, and retrieving media information to integrate into the curriculum; • Makes all media easily accessible to students, teachers, and other school personnel;
• Creates and fosters a climate that motivates effective utilization of media facilities, resources, and services;
• Provides opportunities for personal and professional growth of the faculty as well as him/herself;
• Participates in curriculum development and implementation;
• Coordinates and directs the activities of media assistants (library clerks), student assistants, and parent volunteers;
• Develops and administers the media center budget;
• Evaluates the media center program, services, equipment, and materials in terms of adequacy in meeting curricular needs, student needs, community needs, and state, regional, and national standards, and modifies as appropriate;
• Maintains accurate reports and records of materials and equipment;
• Formulates the specifications and design of the school media facilities; and
• Other duties as assigned.
