Position: Press Assistant
Reports to: Communications Director
Position Summary:
The Press Assistant is a vital role in the Communications Department – which coexists with the Research and Policy department. The main objective of the Press Assistant is to create and maintain a cohesive workflow throughout the departments and proactively keep tasks in motion. Daily duties consist of compiling daily press clips, managing schedules and internal/external meetings, being proficient in having releases approved by all the appropriate staff, a wide variety of writing/research projects, press lists and press calls, working with other assistants to create balance within all departments, and foremost – be a guide for any questions and feedback given.
The Press Assistant must be able to take direction from several different members of the team and quickly adapt to the fast pace of the office. This job requires working under pressure, working with hard deadlines, organizational skills, the willingness to work irregular hours to finish projects, and must work efficiently with staff at all levels. This is a job for people who want to learn quickly from a talented and fast-moving communications team. Responsibilities Include:
- Assist the Communications Director, Deputy Communications Director, and National Press Secretary in the day-to-day communications operations for the entire DCCC communications department.
- In concert with fellow assistants and coordinators, work cross-departmentally to facilitate externally facing programs involving communications functions of the DCCC.
- Perform daily communications functions, including compiling clips, assisting Regional Press Secretaries with press releases and media monitoring, drafting press materials, and identifying potential news opportunities for the DCCC communications department.
- Provide key administrative and organizational support to the DCCC communications department on various tasks and special events.
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Precise writing skills and the drive to learn quickly and respond to clear and direct feedback.
- Excellent organizational and scheduling skills.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Commitment to the election of Democrats in the US House of Representatives.
- Familiarity with political communications and prior campaign experience a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and sense of humor a must.
- Superior time management, attention to detail and multi-tasking abilities.
