Description

The Florida Department of Education is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, self-motivated professional to serve as public information officer. The public information officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks to include, but not limited to:

• assisting with the intake and resolution of media inquiries directed to the department and staff;
• writing and editing press releases, media advisories, press statements, talking points, op-eds, newsletters and other informational materials for publication;
• initiating media coverage, also known as story pitching, as it relates to key messages or stories; and
• serving as one of the agency’s copy editors.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a four-year degree in communications, public relations, marketing, English, journalism or related field and a minimum of two years of work experience in a professional communications or public relations environment. Media relations, writing and editing experience is preferred.
