The Florida State University College of Law Research Center is an innovative, exciting library with a collaborative approach to decision making. Located in Tallahassee, Florida’s beautiful capital city, the library services Florida State University faculty, staff and students, and students and faculty of other local colleges and universities, as well as the Florida Bar and the general public. The library’s principal user population includes approximately 50 tenure-track and other faculty members, and approximately 800 J.D. and LL.M. students. The College of Law offers an intellectually rigorous legal education in a welcoming, collegial atmosphere which is supportive of students, faculty, and staff.

Salary Range

$50,000 – $52,000

Qualifications

Juris Doctorate degree from ABA-Accredited law school or equivalent and Master’s degree in Library Science (or its equivalent) from ALA-accredited institution. Computer and telecommunication skills, including proficiency with internet and web-based information tools. Skilled in use of LEXIS and Westlaw and other legal research systems. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Strong service orientation. Team player. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, forward-thinking educator with a sincere love of teaching.

Preferred

Demonstrated teaching and communication abilities with a variety of academic constituencies. Instructional design skills and experience with software applications in support of education. Bar membership or an intention to take a state Bar exam.

Responsibilities

Supports faculty and student research requests; prepares or maintains research guides; participates in staffing the Reference Desk. Teaches legal research (general and specialized) for materials in all formats; provides instruction in the use of education technologies via traditional and non-traditional classes, including fully online eLearning, hybrid or blended, and face-to-face instruction; keeps abreast of trends in adult education, research on effective teaching for varied learning styles, bibliographic instruction, and electronic media by reviewing technical and academic literature, by networking with colleagues and through attendance at conferences. Researches and develops distance learning alternatives; supports faculty in the creation of distance learning courses. Participates in outreach and marketing of library services and resources to students and faculty. Contributes to the Florida State University Libraries, and the profession through substantive involvement in committee work, research, publishing, and participating in professional organizations. Other duties as assigned. Full-time 40-hour week, library faculty position.
