Responsibilities
Position Focus Statement:
This position manages and provides day to day system administration, virtualization management, and IT operations for faculty, staff, and students for the School of Communication Science and Disorders and CCI.
Description of Responsibilities:
- Virtualization management using virtual machine management and reporting tools for HIPAA virtual machines. Provide distance learning IT support for faculty and students via screen sharing, video, and voice conferencing. Ensure HIPAA compliance (HIPAA best practices). Maintain network security guidelines. Maintain disaster recovery plan for offsite backups relating to HIPAA documents. Configure and manage encrypted HIPAA backup solutions using backup software. Monitoring systems and responding to alerts. Configuring and setting up new alerts. Verifying backups are running on a daily basis.
- Configure and manage network hardware including firewalls, switches, storage and printers within a HIPAA compliance environment. Configure and manage virtual machines for offsite research purposes. Configure and manage Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system for the Speech and Hearing Clinic. Configure and manage specialized Speech and Hearing software for faculty and students. Configure and manage computer labs for the Veteran’s clinic and specialized Speech Software for students. Manage HIPAA compliance video system for onsite and distance learning.
- Install configure and manage physical and virtual servers. Configure and manage backup solutions using backup software. Configure and manage various network equipment such as switches, POE cameras, and printers. Configure and manage computer labs for classrooms and student’s workspace.
- Installs and maintains Windows, Ubuntu and Mac OSs. Installs and maintains hardware and software applications. Advises users on purchases with respect to compatibility, cost and other ramifications. Remains current on software releases and hardware technology advances. Help users with purchases of software and hardware. Trains end users in proper use of hardware and software. Maintains records and documentation as needed. Responsible for overseeing monthly software patching for workstations and servers.
- Provides computer related support for teaching activities. Assist faculty, staff and grad students with presentations, demonstrations, etc. Serves as a member of the development team, demonstrates ability to communicate effectively in both technical and education environments.
- Helps manage all aspects of Information and Communications computer labs. Develops, implements and enforces rules. Sets up user accounts and privileges. Installs and maintains OS and application software. Works with faculty and graduate students to evaluate needs and identify appropriate software so that the lab remains current and responsive to user needs. Provides technical support and training for the computer lab users and Help Desk employees as well as resolves software and hardware problems. Responsible for building and maintaining computer images for the college. The ability to write complex scripts using tools such as PowerShell, bash, Python, or others. Responsible for providing support for the college researchers, which may include procurement, installation, and configuration of hardware and software. Supervise students from the CCI HelpDesk.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and six years of experience? (Note: post-high school education may substitute for experience at the comparable rate.)
- Ability to convey technical information to technical and nontechnical users.
- Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
- Ability to document existing and new processes.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
- Knowledge of applicable computer software and operating systems, including Windows server 2012 R2, Linux(Ubuntu), and Hyper-V.
- Technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols and standards, including Active Directory.
- Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures for computer support.
- Knowledge of standard programming languages, concepts, practices, and procedures within the technology field.
- Knowledge of computer operations, functions, and related peripherals.
- A valid Florida or Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.
