Web Developer

The University of Texas at San Antonio Library is seeking a dynamic, energetic, user oriented individual for the position of Web Developer.  This position is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining dynamic web pages as well as the back-end databases and integrating various data sources and web services for users into new interfaces and applications.

Required Qualifications:   Associate’s degree.  Three years of experience in database-driven web site and web application architecture and development using intermediate web programming tools and languages.  Minimum of two years working in the application developer role or recent demonstrated experience in design, maintenance, and development of desktop and web-based applications using XHTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP, Perl, or Python.  Two years of database experience in MySQL, MS SQL Server or Oracle.  Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, analytical and organizational skills.  Strong customer services orientation.  Ability to identify problems uncovered by testing or user feedback, and solve problems.  Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in an information technology related field.  Four or more years of experience in analysis, systems design or programming.  Data modeling and analysis for business process.  Writing queries in Structural Query Language (SQL).  Ability to develop databases that support web applications and web sites.  Ability to analyze user needs to determine technical requirements.  Knowledge of XML, XSL, DOM and Web 2.0 tools to draw content from various Web sources into new integrated applications and interfaces.  Knowledge and understanding of content management systems, such as Expression Engine, Drupal, etc.  Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, working with competing demands from different individuals.  Ability to conduct research into emerging Web technologies and programming practices through continuing education, reading, or participation in professional training.

Salary:  $37,812 (flexible, depending on qualifications).  This is a full-time, classified, benefits-eligible position.
