White Plains Public Library, Part-Time Librarians in our Youth Services Department

Do you love working with teens? Helping them find a great read, the answer to a homework problem, and just brightening up their day?  The White Plains Public Library has openings for Part-Time Librarians in our Youth Services Department, with a focus on working in the Edge, our teen library. 

Duties include, but are not limited to

  • Providing circulation assistance, customer service, reference, reader’s advisory, and homework help in the Edge, our Teen Library for grades 7-12.

  • Overseeing the Edge during its busiest hours and ensuring teen patrons have a rewarding experience while also following the Library’s code of conduct.

  • Occasionally working in the Trove, our children’s library.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library or information science (MLS/MSIS).  Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • NYS Public Librarian Certificate.

  • Bilingual Spanish speaking is strongly preferred.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of children, teens and adults.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Being very approachable and welcoming, while enforcing the Library’s rules and code of conduct.

  • Ability to work independently.

Shifts include Monday-Wednesday 4-7pm, Fridays 3-6pm, and some weekend hours.

Rate of pay:  $30/hour.
