Java Development Intern

Diverse Computing is looking for an organized, highly motivated Java Development Intern to join our team.  Internships with Diverse Computing are different from most; they’re more like part-time jobs, in fact. We believe in helping our young talent professionalize, so you’ll get real hands-on experience in addition to a flexible schedule so you can still focus on your classes.

If you’re a hard worker who is ready for a challenge, this could be for you! Read on for more info.

As the JD Intern you will:
• Create and modify enterprise software applications and specialized utility tools
• Analyze user needs and develop software solutions
• Develop and customize software for client use to optimize operational efficiency
• Design new databases and optimize existing ones
• Develop integrated unit testing packages
• Maintain systems by monitoring, identifying, and correcting software defects
• Create technical specifications and test plans

This job might be for you if:
• You’re pursuing a degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Mathematics or related field — or you have related work experience
• You have some experience with programming beyond classwork (desired but not required)
• You have a solid understanding of Object Oriented Programming
• You have some exposure to one of the following: Java, Javascript, Python, CSS
• You’re willing to take initiative and guide your own progress in your internship — no hand-holding here!
• You’re helpful and enjoy working with others to achieve a common goal
• You’re a master multi-tasker

Before you apply, you should be able to:
• Come in to our Tallahassee office for a minimum of 15-20 hours/week
• Commit to a multi-semester internship
• Imagine yourself being hired on full-time and staying in Tallahassee after you graduate
• Pass a background check and drug screening

We ask a lot, but we give a lot in return:
• Our office is based in Tallahassee, so your internship is local.
• We offer schedules that are flexible with your classes and school activities.
• If you’re the right candidate, we’ll offer you a full-time position at the conclusion of your internship.
• We have an award-winning office culture that’s welcoming, fun, and collaborative.
• You’ll have access to a ton of perks like free catered lunch and snacks every single day, an on-site gym, and a pet-friendly policy (they don’t call us the Google of Tallahassee for nothing).
• You’ll have opportunities to get involved with local young professional groups, volunteering and charity work, and further professional training if desired.
