Internship — Library Programming (Lake Luzerne, NY)

Library Programming Internship Available for Spring 2016

$500 Stipend Included

About:

  • The Hadley-Luzerne Public Library is situated in the picturesque town of Lake Luzerne, an hour’s drive from Albany. The library is chartered to serve just over 5000 people in a small, rural community on the outskirts of Glens Falls and has 1680 registered borrowers. Last year we held 100 programs attended by 1152 people, as compared to the previous year when we held 112 programs attended by 1566 people. The library would like an intern to assist in developing strong, successful programs for all ages that are relevant to the community in order to increase program attendance and interest.
  • In addition to our Goal for your internship, you’ll be shown the day-to-day operations and the administrative aspects of library service, including exploring grant opportunities; this will be a flexible internship during which you will work very closely with the Library Director.
  • The library is open Tues. & Thurs. 9AM-7PM, Wed. & Fri. 9AM-4PM, & Sat. 9AM-2PM

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with (or interest in) working with young children
  • Social media marketing experience and strong computer skills
  • Must be pleasant & personable, preferably with experience working with members of the public of all ages
  • Creativity is a must!

Project Goal:

  • Assist in developing a Summer Adult Lecture Series, a teen program, a toddler story time program, and help plan and fill out simple grant applications for the juvenile Summer Reading Program.

Project Objectives:

By the end of the internship, the intern will:

  • Plan, market, deliver, and evaluate programming for adults, teens & toddlers
  • Complete simple grant applications relevant to summer planning
  • Develop, present, and encourage greater attendance at weekly early literacy story times
  • Create an action plan for the library to use to sustain these programs and their attendance

Knowledge Objectives:

By the end of the internship, the intern will:

  • Have familiarity with Polaris (our Interlibrary Circulation system) and daily library operations
  • Understand how to design and market a successful library program
  • Be able to write simple grants and plan programs relative to those grants
