Marketing & Outreach Internship Available at Waterford Public Library: Spring 2016 Semester

$500 Stipend Included

About:

  • The Waterford Public Library serves a diverse community of approximately 7,000 people living within the Town and Village of Waterford. The library is located 3 blocks off of Broad St, which serves as the primary business district for the Village. We are open 7 days a week and offer a full range of services and materials, including books and magazines, AV materials, and public access computers. In addition, we have a full-time youth services librarian, who coordinates a variety of age-appropriate programming, including a weekly story-time, and the Summer Reading Program. We would be interested in an intern with flexible availability, both days and evenings, so as to maximize opportunities to observe and interact with the community.

Goal:

  • The Intern will work closely with the Director to help network with members of our community & other community organizations to determine the best way to invigorate community interest in and promote awareness of library programs & services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with community groups and members of the public
  • Experience with Social Media tools and how they can be integrated into a marketing strategy
  • Sales or marketing experience

Project Tasks:

  • The intern will undergo and utilize community assessment training offered by SALS
  • The intern will identify promising ways to engage community members and organizations, making initial steps to help the library form sustainable relationships and partnerships
  • The intern will create marketing templates and an overall plan for use in promoting programming and services, especially to underserved populations within the community identified through the community assessment
  • The intern is expected to assist in the management of our library’s social media presence and to suggest any improvements and changes which could be beneficial

Project Objectives:

  • After Community Assessment training, the intern will identify and address specific library outreach deficits
  • The intern will help facilitate stronger relationships with community members and organizations
  • The intern will increase interest in the library’s services and attendance at programs through a sustainable marketing plan and through social media
