Overview: The Florida State University Libraries, in partnership with the School of Information, invites eligible Master’s and Ph.D. program students to apply for Graduate Assistantships in the University Libraries. The purpose of these assistantships is to provide graduate students with valuable, applied work experience that will enhance their classroom learning and their marketability to potential employers after graduation.
Assessment Graduate Data Analyst for FSU Libraries: Work with the Assessment Librarian and Team to tell the library story by assisting with the preparation, production, and presentation of written reports and by constructing data visualizations to exhibit meaningful information about how the University Library contributes to the success of the FSU Community.
Position Duties: Collect, clean, troubleshoot, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data based on the needs of a diverse number of projects and/or national and local surveys.
A large portion of the assistantship will involve communication and scholarship:
• Collaborate and coordinate assessment projects with a diverse library community
• Participate in the Library Assessment Committee.
• Provide data analytics and statistical findings that stakeholders request in a timely manner. Communicate data formats pertinent and appropriate to stakeholder audiences.
• Learn and/or become proficient in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI). Create dashboards and data visualizations for reporting.
• Learn and/or apply programming languages to work with library data (e.g., R, Python).
• Assist with writing IRB applications and publications for external and internal audiences.
• Co-author research findings in library and higher education-related journals and present at academic conferences.
• Learn, apply, and champion library privacy principles.
• Learn and apply data management best practices.
Other important contributions: Shepherding undergraduate OPS employees in assessment activities, skills, and projects. Creative problem-solving abilities, a detail-oriented nature, and a desire to understand the needs and behaviors of library users are all valued attributes of someone in this position.
Due to the in-person aspect of this position, it is not designed for fully remote graduate students who do not reside in Tallahassee.
