iSchool Alumnus Chris Harrison succeeds at Publix as Systems Analyst Programmer

Information Technology alumnus, Chris Harrison, is approaching his five-year anniversary with Publix Super Markets, following a recent promotion to Systems Analyst Programmer. The 2010 graduate of the College of Communication and Information is also in pursuit of an M.S. Information Technology and Innovation at Florida Polytechnic University, beginning this fall.

Prior to his promotion, Harrison worked as a Programmer Analyst, troubleshooting application issues, completing performance testing, developing and maintaining PowerShell install scripts for middleware components (.NET frameworks, Publix frameworks, and database drivers) used to help build application servers. With the promotion, Chris’ day-to-day activities have remained relatively the same, but he has been given additional responsibility to manage projects and people within the team.

“One of the best things about my job is that no two days are ever the same. There is always something new to analyze, especially with the ever-changing technology,” Harrison says.

Looking back on his education at Florida State, Chris was thankful for the opportunity to explore all aspects of the IT field through the coursework.

“I was able to gain invaluable knowledge from many distinguished doctors and professors in several areas, such as networking, computer security, programming, and database concepts,” he explains.

As a part of the Enterprise Applications and Services Team at Publix, Chris continually uses concepts taught in the classroom to organize data, plan out project deliverables and provide timely and high-quality solutions for complex issues.
