While earning his undergraduate degrees, Demetrius was a 2-term Student Senator, Vice President of the Association for Computing Machinery, Social Actions and Community Service Chair for Progressive Black Men, a member of the Black Actors Guild, Information Specialist at the student union and a S.A.F.E. bus driver. His extensive involvement at school helped him earn over 600 volunteer service hours.

“Take every opportunity you have to showcase your skills or to learn a new one,” Brown says.

He also interned as a network administrator for the FSU London Study Centre in the United Kingdom for six months and describes it as a “life-changing experience”.

After graduation, Brown became employed with the FCRR as a Senior Support Specialist and supervised twenty other Support Specialists. He worked for a team that supported over 40,000 teachers around the state of Florida in relation to issues with the Florida Assessments in Reading (FAIR).

“I also was the lead for Quality Assurance for the 4 applications that was used to test Florida’s 1.6 million K-12 students,” he explains.

Brown is thankful to have been counseled by his former professor, Dr. Ebrahim Randeree, who inspired him to pursue a Master’s degree in Information Technology at Florida State. Demetrius graduated in the summer of 2014 with bright prospects ahead.

“I must say, it was tough working a full time job and going to school, but it was worth it. The wealth of knowledge was worth the late night studying,” he admits.

Brown is enthused about his transition to General Motors and will oversee all software testing–including functional, regression and system testing of projects, bugs and enhancements– and will troubleshoot production issues with the GM Enterprise Database Warehouse.

Outside of work, Brown is a member of the Chi Omega chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.
