CCI Alumna Publishes Children’s Book

A to Z Affirmations: from a mother to her sonsDr. Neleen Leslie-Piper (M.S. ’11, Ph.D. ’15) recently published her first children’s book, A to Z Affirmations: from a mother to her sons.

This book offers affirming adjectives for every letter of the alphabet to help young men build a strong vocabulary of positive character traits to describe not only themselves, but others too.

Leslie-Piper shared that the inspiration behind her book sprouted from her own sons, who are 3 and 1, saying that she thinks it’s important for her children to develop a positive self-image and confidence. “I wrote the book to encourage positive self-talk in my home in the hopes that the habit will continue throughout their lives.”

Dr. Neleen Leslie-PiperA to Z Affirmations had been in the works for quite some time and Leslie-Piper is already planning for her next inspirational children books, as well as working on a series that shares Caribbean culture with children in the diaspora, especially those who are also of Caribbean descent.

“I hope the book brings parents and their children closer together,” says Leslie-Piper. “The goal is to create memories of us speaking positivity into children’s lives. Hopefully, as our children get older and begin to explore the world, these lessons stay with them.”
