iSchool Alumna, Jervishia Walker, Named Manager of Public Relations

jwalkerThis November, Jervishia Walker was named Manager of Public Relations at TransMedia Group, a full service public relations firm headquartered in Boca Raton. Walker will work with clients like Leah Flynn, the 7 year old violin prodigy, Ballroom Dance Fitness and Aqua Television Network.

As an undergraduate student, Jervishia Walker selected two majors, which proved to be a golden combination—information technology and creative writing. Because of the skills acquired at FSU, she is able to manage clients from a holistic perspective. Walker understands how to galvanize publicity for clients by creating attention-grabbing communications from creative angles. All while managing websites, social media, blogs, and further developing the online presence of each of her clients.

Her past education and work history honed Walker’s ability to stay on top of trends, create engaging content tailored to meet the needs of a target audience, establish social media strategies, and develop brands within the community.

“I learned the skills necessary to succeed from Florida State,” said Walker. “But the staff is what made the difference for me. I remember asking my mentors, ‘what do you see in me.’” Said Walker.

Walker’s involvement at Florida State, also speaks to her skills. With the aim to making community service a staple on FSU’s campus, she reactivated a chapter of a service sorority that had been gone for 20 years, for which she remained president throughout her undergraduate career. In addition Walker founded a news website for women, called In its prime, the site provided daily content to over 500,000 unique viewers, reached an audience across different social platforms, and engaged readers in weekly online discussions. Eventually, Jervishia partnered with the assistant dean of her college to provide internship credit to students, in exchange for working with her brand. After graduation, Walker earned her master’s degree from South University in Business Administration.

“Every day, I try to live up to the image my mentors at Florida State had of me, especially Ebe Randeree,” said Walker. “What keeps me going is proving them right.”
