Since graduating with an Integrated Marketing Communication degree from Florida State University in 2010, Julio Valeriano has made his mark in the Public Relations industry in Washington, D.C. With more than five years of experience, Valeriano provides effective strategic communication, media relations and integrated marketing support for brand marketing, corporate, healthcare, public affairs and technology industries like DuPont and Pfizer.
Julio earned his Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations at the University of West Florida in 2007. While studying at UWF, Valeriano interned with Cox Communications in Pensacola, Florida and developed editorial content for their internal online newsletter, including interviews, competitor and company performance articles, events and human resources information.
While working towards his Master’s degree at Florida State, Valeriano served as a Teaching Assistant for an undergraduate Hispanic Marketing class during 2009.
During the last year of his studies, Julio interned at Fleishman-Hillard International Communications where he assisted in the development and execution of nationally recognized social media programs for Procter & Gamble and Tommy Hilfiger. He also conducted social media research and provided crisis management support for clients, such as Ernst & Young and CFA. Julio participated as a speaker during Social Media Week DC 2011, where he presented a session titled: “Reaching Hispanics in the Digital Space. Insights and Learnings from an Increasingly Tech-savvy Audience.”
“The Integrated Marketing Communication program at FSU gave me the foundation to- effectively and holistically- craft global and national campaigns that are rooted on insights, boast creativity and drive business, which are key attributes to be successful in the agency world,” Valeriano says.
His expertise and experience in earned media relations, including his ability to leverage events to generate media coverage, has driven results, generating millions of media impressions and securing placements in top-tier publications including: The Washington Post, The New York Times, Slate, Buzzfeed, CNN, CNNMoney, Forbes Magazine, Inc. Magazine, Bloomberg, WIRED, The Hill, CNBC, The Associated Press, Univision, Agencia EFE, and MSN Latino.
“The quality of professors and mentors, rigorous study of statistics and research methods, and an academic environment conducive to excellence have given me the tools thrive in a highly competitive industry,” Julio explains.
Valeriano has also been proactive in international media relations. He has lead and executed high impact media on behalf of the Government of Peru for the recent 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP20). Julio has also lead and executed nation branding campaigns on behalf of the Government of Chile and the Government of Mexico and overseen program execution and media outreach efforts to secure coverage in Latin America for a large Federal agency.
“More importantly, the IMC program taught me that to remain relevant in today’s global workforce, we have to embrace change, constantly re-invent ourselves, and think outside the box,” Valeriano says.
