On April 12, 2025, Associate Dean Ebe Randeree attended a celebration of the Regional National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) chapter in Jacksonville, FL, where he was presented with the 2025 Aspirations in Computing Educator Award. The regional award is one of the 121 educators recognized across the US and Canada and is designed to recognize educators who mentor 9th through 12th grade students and support their pathway in the computing/technology fields. The award recognizes their effort in broadening participation in computing.
Randeree’s background spans the fields of technology, healthcare, leadership, and higher education. His specific interests are in outreach and creating pipelines from K-12 to higher education to industry with a focus on technology/IT fields.
“From the moment I met Ebe, he has been my biggest supporter,” Information Technology student Maggie Martin-McKinnie said. “He has always believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. I’m also definitely not alone in this – if you talk to anyone who has known Ebe, they will say the same. He genuinely cares about his students’ success and wellbeing, and our college experience! He taught me the importance of being a balanced and well-rounded individual, to have multiple outlets, and to use your resources. No one is as deserving of this award as Ebe is.”
NCWIT has recognized that computing and computational thinking are increasingly important 21st-century skills. These skills lead the way for innovative solutions to long-standing problems at national and local levels. Given that technology increasingly permeates every aspect of society, experience in computing and technology is in high demand by virtually every industry. At the ceremony, Randeree presented some industry changes to parents and student award winners.
Randeree is the mentor for FSU’s Students in Technology, Academia, Research, and Service (STARS) and has and continues to have a large role in the national STARS organization spanning across the United States. Randeree is involved in other various volunteer work such as being on the board of the TalTech Alliance since 2020 and a board member for Florida’s Technology Student Association (TSA) since 2009.
