The Torchbearer 100 represents 100 undergraduate leaders that have made significant impacts on the Florida State University (FSU) community. The Torchbearer 100 plays on the phrase “Leaders and achievers” to encompass a wide range of students and their continuous commitment to the community.
Torchbearer 100 students Michael Alfele, Anna Savacool, and Snailey Dol are student leaders that have displayed their achievements through their involvement at FSU.
Michael Alfele received a Bachelor’s of Science (B.S) in Public Relations this past spring semester and joined the torchbearers list through his involvement as an Orientation Leader and a Professional Liaison in the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) Student Capital Chapter. In this role in FPRA, he worked to give members a way to connect with professionals and gain meaningful networking opportunities they can use in their careers.
“Being named a Torchbearer is incredibly meaningful, it’s a reminder that the work we do behind the scenes matters and that creating a supportive, inclusive community is just as important as any title or position. It affirms Alfele said.
Torchbearers is an organization that fosters connection and community. Even with so many members there was a central commonality between the three CCI Torchbearer students that were selected. Each student described how they wanted to leave a legacy marked by inclusion and service.
“My desire has never been to impress people, but to invest in them. I want students to feel seen beyond what they do, and deeply known for who they are,” said Anna Savacool.
Anna Savacool graduated with her B.S in Mass Communication Studies. Savacool co-funded Gameday Grace for female student athletes, where she led as Captain of the FSU Golden Girls Dance Team. She also gained experience in her role running the social media accounts for the School of Communication as part of the Director’s Ambassador Program.
“Being a Torchbearer means carrying light—not for recognition, but for responsibility. It’s a calling to serve when it’s hard, to love when it’s costly, and to lead when no one is watching… sometimes, it looks like quietly holding space for someone else to shine,” Savacool said.
Similarly, to Savacool, Torchbearer Snailey Dol had moments of leadership where there wasn’t an immediate celebration of hard work.
“A lot of the time, leadership can feel like you’re working behind the scenes without anyone really noticing the long hours, the planning, and the emotional energy it takes to create meaningful experiences for others,” Dol said.
Snailey Dol is a senior majoring in Information Technology. Dol has become an integral part of his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the Black Student Union, where he was recently elected Director/President. Not only has he explored these academic roles, but Sol has also gained experience through a multitude of his internships including his time as a Software Engineer at Wells Fargo and Data Engineer for FSU.
“This recognition pushes me to keep showing up, to keep giving my best, and to continue leading with heart. It’s a sign that I’m on the right path, and that even the smallest efforts can make a big difference,” Dol said.
Congratulations to all the Torchbearers for becoming part of a cohort of individuals that represent character and what it means to be a leader.
