iSchool Doctoral Student Appointed Co-chair of ALA Subcommittee on Information Literacy

Ayansewa Adedeji, a doctoral student at the School of Information, has been appointed Co-chair of the Science and Technology Section (STS) Information Literacy Committee, a subcommittee under the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).

Adedeji’s two-year appointment began July 1, 2025, and runs through June 30, 2027. In this leadership role, he will help guide the committee’s efforts to promote science and technology information literacy in academic libraries and higher education institutions across America.

“I’m especially excited to work alongside other passionate library professionals in the United States to build tools and frameworks that support both students and faculty,” Adedeji added. “We need to ensure libraries remain central to the learning and innovation process.”

As a co-chair, Adedeji will help lead national efforts to enhance information literacy within science and engineering education. His duties include developing and evaluating instructional resources, promoting effective teaching methods, and collaborating with faculty and other library professionals on strategies for advancing information literacy.

Adedeji brings a wealth of experience working in libraries and a forward-thinking research perspective focused on AI literacy, information literacy, and the future of libraries. His appointment reflects a growing recognition of the impact of our emerging scholars on shaping global library practices.
