iSchool Student Awarded FSU FLA Award

iSchool student Adrian Legaspi was awarded the FSU MSLIS graduate program scholarship by the Florida Library Association. This association is a statewide organization that promotes excellence in Florida libraries. This scholarship is given to FLA members enrolled in accredited library programs within Florida.

“I believe that I was awarded the FSU FLA Scholarship because I demonstrated my commitment to continue to work to improve Florida Libraries,” says Adrian. “Although my career focus thus far has been based in academic libraries, I believe that libraries and the learning resources provided in libraries will be critical in helping students succeed throughout their university careers. Additionally, I believe that libraries can provide crucial resources to help close the gap for students who may be entering college or university with certain deficits,” he says.

Adrian found the M.S. in Information Science program to be extremely helpful in widening his perspective on the emerging trends in libraries across the United States and the world. “It has helped me to improve my own professional versatility and adaptability, which will remain lifelong skills as I move forward in my career,” he explains. His experience as a staff member at the University of Miami’s library coupled with his experience at FSU has made Adrian an innovative and forward-thinking information professional.

Adrian is excited to continue his education with the aid of this scholarship. “Receiving this scholarship has helped me to feel recognized that my hard work and passion in my career has not gone unnoticed and unappreciated. Additionally, the financial assistance has made a huge difference in my budget during these difficult economic times and is such a great relief. My appreciation to the FLA is truly profound and fills me with gratitude to see those already established in our career working to help those just starting out,” he explains.

Although we are certainly in unprecedented times, Adrian hopes to continue moving forward in his career and CCI is excited to see where the future takes him!
