Florida Library Association Scholarships

The Florida Library Association (FLA) Scholarship Committee is pleased to
announce that the application process has begun for the 2012 scholarships,
which will be awarded at the 2012 Annual Conference.
Three graduate school scholarships ($2,000 each)
are available: one at Florida State University, one at the University of South
Florida and a third, the Minority scholarship, which may be awarded at either
school.
To qualify for a Minority Scholarship, the candidate must belong to one of the
following ethnic groups: Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian/Pacific
Islander, or American Indian/Alaska Native.
Additional scholarships are available for undergraduates: one for a student
pursuing a bachelor’s degree ($750) and one for a
student pursuing an associate’s degree ($350).
The scholarships are available from a dedicated fund and have been given since
1995. This fund is replenished through donations and fundraising activities.
The primary fundraising activity is the Silent Auction held at the FLA Annual
Conference.
Eligibility Requirements
- applicant must be a resident
of Florida and have some experience in a Florida library; - be admitted to an accredited
program at a Florida college or university or to a library/information
graduate degree program at FSU or USF; - commit to working in a
Florida library for a minimum of one year after graduation; and - be an FLA member in good
standing.
Submission Requirements
- Complete and submit the
appropriate application (Form 22 Graduate Scholarship Application or Form
23 Undergraduate Scholarship Application), including an essay of no more
than three pages. - Submit an official letter of
acceptance to FSU or USF graduate school with your application. - Arrange for three letters of
reference to be sent under separate cover by February
1, 2012. - Submit all documents to:
