Communications Intern @ 211 Big Bend

211 Big Bend was established in 1970 as Telephone Counseling Service at FSU. In 1976 it was incorporated as a nonprofit organization called Telephone Counseling and Referral Service (TCRS) and then changed its name in 2002 to 211 Big Bend when it began using the three-digit 211 number for its local hotline. Its programs grew from a small local 24/7 crisis hotline program to a regional 211 hotline service along with statewide hotline programs.

Marketing Interns will be selected by and work under the direction of the Director of Development and Communications, Kay Meyer. There are members of the board of directors with professional marketing experience who assist the president with the development of the annual marketing plan and the design of marketing materials. Other agency staff members provide a variety of outreach and marketing activities related to volunteer recruitment, presentations, exhibits, awareness events and annual agency activities.

Each intern will be assigned specific projects and tasks according to his/her interests, skills, and internship requirements. The time of year of the internship will also be a factor in determining what projects are most relevant for the agency.

We have created a supportive, learning environment for the student intern along with challenging tasks and opportunities for professional development. The agency has a well established hotline counselor volunteer program and works with student volunteers and interns in all areas of the agency in addition to the marketing internship program. Marketing interns will learn about the agency programs, the local human service system and the nonprofit community as part of their experience.

Some priority projects that have been identified for marketing in 2022 include:

  • Developing content and producing a monthly Constant Contact newsletter
  • Staffing a committee to plan events, activities, outreach and alumni contacts
  • Working with local media to place PSAs and billboards
  • Developing stories about our services and the people we assist so they can help us tell the community about the benefits of our programs
  • Developing a fundraising plan for direct mail; helping the agency implement quarterly marketingappeal
  • Assisting with the February 10th fundraiser called “A Night of Hope” (Intern must be available for the weeks preceding this event and at event all day)
