Intern, Communications, Nothing but Nets

 

Overview

The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women’s empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.

The intern will report to the Sr. Officer of Communications and Digital Media. She/he will work with other team members of the Nothing But Nets, Public Affairs, and Global Health teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support the campaign’s communications efforts to meet grassroots, advocacy, and fundraising strategies.
  • Assist the Senior Associate in maintaining the campaign’s editorial calendar and brainstorming content for the campaign’s blog and Instagram.
  • Help write and edit campaign digital content, including blog posts, social media content, and other campaign materials.
  • Help design social media toolkits and graphics.
  • Monitor for and share news about malaria and Nothing But Nets, and help maintain the campaign’s media coverage archive.
  • Work with the communications team to research and identify key media contacts for appropriate campaign stories and events.
  • Help the Senior Associate pull data and analyze the campaign’s digital performance.
  • Help the campaign update materials and collateral with new messaging.
  • Work with the campaign to draft fact sheets, press releases, media advisories, refugee impact stories, and other communications materials.
  • Support the Senior Associate in the promotion, measurement, and content of the new website.
  • Support campaign communications surrounding key celebrity ambassador trips and appearances.
  • Assist with campaign events.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • Intern must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within eight months of graduation) with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
  • 25-40 per week is required for the internship.
  • Applicants should have an understanding of and experience with communications, journalism and/or public relations, social networking and blogging, and have their own presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, or Tumblr.
  • Background knowledge in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or Global Health preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience in Word, Excel, Outlook, Photoshop.
  • Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.

Benefits and Compensation

The United Nations Foundation offers unpaid full and part-time internships. We are happy to host interns who are able to receive academic credit or a stipend through their college or university. However, please note that it is not a requirement in order to intern with us.
