Library Internship Opportunity 2 positions
Fall 2015
The Tidewater Community College (TCC) Chesapeake campus library has two openings for library internships for the coming fall 2015 semester. These are unpaid internships that will provide the selected candidates with in-depth experience serving users in an academic setting.
Required: Interns must be enrolled in or recent graduates of an ALA-accredited MLS program.
Schedule: Interns must work a minimum of 10 hours a week, with an ideal schedule being 15-20 hours per week. Internships begin in late August and run through early December. Interns must be available between 10am – 4pm, Monday – Thursday.
Duties: Interns will provide individual reference assistance to TCC students as part of the library’s new “Research to Go” off-site service in the campus’ Academic Building. Interns will also be assigned a special project including but not limited to collection development, instruction support, or libguide creation and maintenance. The specific project will be determined at the start of the internship based on the intern’s skills and interests, as well as the library’s needs.
Expectations: The interns will conduct themselves in a professional, courteous manner, receive training, and adhere to a weekly schedule. Interns will participate in staff meetings, when possible and will demonstrate strong team skills by helping with library projects and tasks, as needed. Interns will have reliable transportation to the Chesapeake campus (1428 Cedar Rd.)
To apply: Please send a cover letter and resume to Abbie Basile, Coordinator of Library Services, TCC Chesapeake. abasile@tcc.edu.
Applications accepted until filled.
