GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This part-time non-sworn position performs entry level administrative work in support of the law enforcement and corrections functions of the agency.  The majority of duties involve creating engaging content for social media through videography and design across all platforms used by LCSO (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.). This position adheres to the agency core values of honesty and integrity, accountability, teamwork, trust and respect and commitment to excellence.  To be successful in this position, the employee must demonstrate competency in time management skills, intermediate to advanced computer skills, general communication skills (both written and oral), inter-personal skills, customer service skills and problem solving skills. The employee will ensure all content follows the LCSO branding guidelines. The Media Part Time Student works closely with the Executive Director and Media Specialist to assist with informing the community of public safety issues and outreach initiatives.  The employee must be self motivated, with an independent work style, extremely detail-oriented, and able to collaborate with other co-workers on projects by exhibiting excellent  interpersonal skills as that of a team player. This position is a special classification which is subject to available funding and needs of the agency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Draft social media posts, press releases, website and print articles for approval by the Communications and Marketing Manager.
  2. Shoot and edit video content for website and social media properties
  3. Monitor multiple social media properties for comments and messages, draft responses based on approved messaging within established timeframes.
  4. Analyze social media insights and interpret data to improve campaign performance
  5. Maintain news alerts and catalogue for LCSO media mentions.
  6. Research, create, and post original content to website for target audience.
  7. Manage social media properties, update them with relevant content for target audience, and constructively respond to visitor queries.
  8. Design content and appearance of print and electronic materials such as letterhead, brochures, slide decks, etc.
  9. Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities.
  10. Demonstrated experience writing press releases, social media posts, and articles for both print and digital mediums.
  11. Demonstrated experience shooting and editing both video and still photography.
  12. Experience completing the design and production of print materials and publications.
  13. Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  14. Ability to work closely with others as a team.
  15. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  16. Ability to provide professional customer service skills to both the public and agency members.
  17. Ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, concise and objective written and oral reports.
  18. Ability to adhere to the standards and principles of the agency’s core values and professionally represent the agency.
  19. Ability to report to work timely, consistently and as scheduled.
  20. Ability to perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the work place

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a high school program or accredited college or university.
  • Must have at least a “C” grade point average (2.0) and maintain this GPA throughout employment.
  • If enrolled in an accredited college or university, must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours per term (except for the summer term).
  • Experience with InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator preferred.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is a time-limited position, which ends immediately following graduation from an accredited college or university.
  • Special consideration and flexibility in schedule is provided to allow the employee to attend classes.
  • Must be able to lift, push, carry or pull a minimum of 25 pounds independently.
