Assistant Librarian

Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Dean, Academic Support Services, the Coordinator, Library Services and Assistant Librarian is responsible for vision and growth, coordination, and collaboration of Library Services at USF Sarasota-Manatee and the North Port Instructional Site. This position will have a 50% administrative assignment as coordinator, library services and a 50% assignment for providing instructional services as an assistant librarian.

The Information Commons is a newly created one-stop academic center focusing on faculty and student support in the areas of library, learning support, and technology services. Library Services at USF Sarasota-Manatee include services provided in the Information Commons, at the joint-use library facility Jane Bancroft Cook Library, and through the USF System Virtual Library.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide vision and growth for Library Services
  • Serve as a team member of Academic Support Services to enhance academic services for students and faculty
  • Collaborate with college faculty and staff to support student learning
  • Collaborate and work with Information Commons E-Learning and Learning Support Services staff on a variety of projects including training, support, etc.
  • Manage, develop and deliver research, reference and instruction services to students and faculty face-to-face and in an online environment.
  • Coordinate services and projects with the Jane Bancroft Cook Library
  • Develop policies and procedures for library services
  • Compile statistics and prepare reports for unit, accrediting agencies, state agencies, new academic degree programs, and/or professional organizations as needed
  • Oversee library budget, library collections, and serve as a liaison with vendors
  • Serve on various campus committees
  • Coordinate and maintain archive system

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Sciences from an ALA accredited institution
  • Experience working in an academic library
  • Experience in administrative oversight of library services including supervision of personnel
  • Demonstrated knowledge of non-traditional library services in an information commons type environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library processes, procedures and services
  • Record of scholarship and research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in relevant field
  • Successful experience working in a non-traditional academic library environment
  • Experience collaborating in an Information Commons academic environment
  • Experience with library budget acquisitions, archives, and collections
  • Demonstrated ability or interest in using emerging technologies within a library environment.
  • Evidence of flexibility, initiative, and ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
