Communications Specialist – UPS in Atlanta

Job Summary

The Communications Specialist contributes to the creation of companywide communications for a wide variety of existing communication channels. He/she works on multiple concurrent and ongoing projects focused on employee communications.

The Communications Specialist works with appropriate departments and managers to assist in the development and execution of internal communications that support the mission and vision of projects or initiatives. He/She ensures deliverables align with UPS style guidelines and culture to convey the appropriate tone and meaning to employees. This position acts as a point of contact between Human Resources and the Operations department to streamline the process of information exchange. The Communications Specialist provides routine status reports for management to update status of current and projected deliverables. He/She prepares materials or articles as needed to assist project manager with communications deliverables.

Other Duties

  • Researches internal and external web sites to gather background data for communication pieces.
  • Searches internal databases for article preparation to get a better understanding of subject matter.
  • Conducts interviews to get additional information for articles.
  • Reviews background research with internal clients to ensure accuracy of deliverables.
  • Writes, edits, and proofreads documents to prepare submissions for internal publications (i.e., UPSers.com, Inside UPS, UPS This Week, Quick Polls).
  • Reviews edits with project manager to correct errors and revise style to align with UPS style guidelines.
  • Develops effective communication pieces such as but not limited to; Prework Communication Meetings (PCMs), Mass text/ Voice Calls and Media Star Presentations

Preferred Competencies

  • Communication Design and Management: Identifies the main message in documents; explains the importance of timely and relevant communication; demonstrates a basic understanding of the different channels available for communication.
  • Detail Orientation: Captures/documents specific and accurate information; learns subjects thoroughly and in detail; completes work with thoroughness; supplies appropriate details when requested; maintains organized files.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) – Preferred
