LIBRARY DIRECTOR: The Chilton/Clanton Public Library seeks a dedicated and energetic leader to direct its operations. This position requires an MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited university and 3-5 years responsible library experience or any combination of education and experience comparable to these requirements as determined by the Chilton/Clanton Public Library Board. Successful candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, interest in current library technology, fiscal/budgetary knowledge, and ability to work effectively with a library board, library employees, and the community.

 

Chilton County is located in central Alabama along the I-65 corridor and has a population of 44,067. Agriculture is a major industry, with peaches being the most widely known of its fruits, as evidenced by the iconic peach tower that can be seen from I-65. Clanton was established as the county seat in 1871 and has a population of 8,756. It is home to a state-of-the-art hospital linked to the St. Vincent’s Health System, and it has a satellite campus of Jefferson State Community College. Its central location makes it ideal for competitions and conferences from across the state to meet in the Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center as well as other sites. The Chilton/Clanton Public Library has about 69,650 items, a current annual circulation of 45,005, and an operating budget of $224,149. It has recently achieved Bronze Status certification from the Alabama Library Association.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the library board, the Library Director administers the operations of the library, in accordance with the Chilton/Clanton Public Library policies and procedures.

 

 

Compensations

This is a full-time position with a benefit package that includes enrollment in the Retirement Systems of Alabama, annual leave, sick leave, and 10-12 paid holidays per year. The salary range is $35,000-$45,000.
