Library Programmer and Analyst @ the University of South Florida Libraries

USF Libraries is looking for a highly motivated innovative person for the position of metadata library programmer and analyst in the Collections and Discovery Department. This position provides server, application, and database administration/support, which includes software development, for the Collections and Discovery department. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of programming and the ability to design and implement custom applications for various collections, discovery, metadata and linked data projects. This person will also administer multiple Library data management systems and their user interfaces.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work with the Metadata Team to develop scripts and programs to facilitate data analysis and standardization. Develop programs to assist the Metadata Team in interacting with various cataloging tools including MarcEdit, OpenRefine, Oxygen, and MacroExpress. Consult with Collections and Discovery team members to design programmatic solutions for various technical issues.

Design and administer relational databases for Collections and Discovery including EB+ SQL database and ebook ERM database. Automate and run the data loading processes for databases. Provide data preservation and archiving for Collections and Discovery databases. Explore ways to enhance and improve the databases.

Create and manage the Collections and Discovery cloud based web servers. Develop web interfaces and construct database queries for web searching and display.

Explore new/emerging tools, technologies and methodologies to automate and streamline workflows and website/software development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training and one year of IT related work experience;
  • OR a Bachelor’s degree with no specific required field and two years of IT related work experience,
  • OR a Master’s degree and one year of IT related work experience,
  • OR a combination of five years of IT related work experience and validated training.  Preparation for a relevant IT certification is considered to be related training.

The Collections and Discovery Department in the Library acquires, organizes, and manages library collections in all formats for the USF Libraries. The Department’s librarians, professionals, and staff work collaboratively in a newly renovated open office environment to ensure efficient access to quality information sources meeting the research and learning needs of the institution’s faculty and students. Functional units include collections management, metadata/cataloging, and resource sharing. The department is located adjacent to Digital Scholarship Services, the fiscal unit, and library administration to offer further opportunities for cross-departmental cooperative projects.
