Responsibilities
This Research Computing Center (RCC) staff member will have primary responsibility for supporting the center’s distributed data storage systems (Panasas, Lustre and WOS) and the HPC Moab batch scheduling environment. Training on the Moab software and the storage systems will be provided as part of the position. The staff member will operate in a relatively independent style to solve systems related problems and conducts system planning to include researching the best and most practical solutions to application problems and requests proposals for related hardware and software solutions.

The successful candidate will be a member of the System’s group and assist in the deployment and maintenance of computing required to support a broad set of research requirements. The support will include writing scripts and programs to facilitate systems deployment, monitoring, compiling, testing, documenting, and installing software packages, answering general systems questions, and developing and managing databases where needed.

Provides systems management support to High Performance Computing (HPC) for a diverse set of research disciplines, including bio-informatics, economics, meteorology, materials science, molecular biophysics, computer visualizations and others. This support includes designing scripts and programs to facilitate research, compiling testing, documenting processes, installing software packages, answering general application questions, and developing and managing databases.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and four years of experience or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to eight years.

Experience working on systems using the Unix or Linux Operating Systems.

Experience with documenting processes (new and existing).

Experience with computer operations, functions, and related peripherals.

Experience prioritizing, organizing and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

Experience working successfully in a team-oriented environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.

Experience training others.

Experience conveying technical information to technical and non-technical users.

Experience interpreting architectural/construction drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Working knowledge of security principles such as firewalls, systems and application access management, network access, intrusion detection, audit and logging management, encryption, etc.

Candidates must have a proven ability to automate systems tasks such as network monitoring, systems performance tuning, and computer accounts creation.

Experience working in development environments, developing procedures and testing new technologies is essential for this position.
Preferred
*Experience with network storage systems and familiarity with storage protocols like NFS is highly desirable.
*Experience with a job batch scheduler like Globus, Moab or Slurm is highly desirable.
*Experience administering UNIX clusters and SMP machines, and using tools for distributed computing is desirable.
*Demonstrated experience with Shell/Perl scripting is desired, experience with a compiled language, such as C, Fortran, or C++, and the MPI application programming interface will be considered a plus.
*Experience with troubleshooting computer and network hardware and various network fabrics, such as Ethernet or Infiniband, will be considered a plus.
*Applicants with excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to document highly technical systems projects for persons who are experts in this area will be preferred.

Other Information
This position is 2 years time limited.

Anticipated Salary Range
Negotiable with experience.

Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
