About This Role:

Kansas State University Salina seeks a dynamic Undergraduate Librarian to lead efforts in creating innovative programming and services that support students on their academic journeys and help turn their educational goals into reality. The Undergraduate Librarian assists in managing the daily operations of the library, including reference, instruction, and collection development. The Undergraduate Librarian also facilitates programming and tutoring services that support student progress. This is a 12-month, tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide in-person, hybrid, and virtual reference services, information literacy instruction, and other academic support services for undergraduate education
  • Promote library and learning services; communicate consistent information about the library
  • Create a welcoming environment with flexible learning spaces for students, faculty, and staff
  • Maintain facilities to support individual and group study, computer work stations, and conference rooms
  • Collaborate with faculty, library director, academic advisors, student life staff, and career services to create and offer programming the supports student academic and career growth
  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in support of K-State Salina students and faculty, including aerospace, aviation, engineering, computer science, social work, and other majors
  • Recruit and train student workers in the library and for tutoring services
  • Liaise with the library staff on the Manhattan campus for collection development, reference, and instruction
  • Participate in professional development activities in the field of librarianship and student success, including continuing education professional association membership, conference and meeting attendance, publications, and leadership opportunities
  • Participate in service activities across campus, such as serving on committees
  • Assess library services and instruction to meet the immediate needs and long-range goals of the library

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in an academic library
  • Masters or other advanced degree (will consider those close to completion) in a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited library
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research with library resources (discovery systems, catalogs, databases, archives)
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service for the library using in-person, phone, video, and emerging technologies
  • Demonstrated record of success working with or providing services for diverse groups
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging
  • Demonstrated record of effective communication in writing and orally
  • Experience working in teams and in collaboration with colleagues
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new systems
  • Evidence of or strong interest in successful supervision and training of undergraduate student workers
