SCSD Faculty member Dr. Kelly Farquharson has been selected as an Editor for the Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools (LSHSS) Journal.
The LSHSS features scholarly articles and studies, mainly focusing on audiology and speech-language pathology in the schools, focusing on children and adolescents. It is quarterly, and access is free for all members of ASHA. Dr. Farquharson has been an active participant with the LSHSS for several years now, initially serving as a reviewer for the LSHSS for over ten years. For the past four years, she has served on the Editorial Board. In those roles, Dr. Farquharson was responsible for reviewing eight-ten articles per week. Her new role as Editor comes with new responsibilities – specifically, coordinating the reviews for submitted manuscripts related to speech sound production and phonology. Additionally, she will review and edit content pertaining to motor speech disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, stuttering, and augmentative and alternative communication.
“It’s truly an honor to be selected for a 3-year term as an editor for Language Speech and Hearing Services in Schools. LSHSS is one of the flagship peer-reviewed journals of the American Speech Language Hearing Association,” said Dr. Farquharson. “That topic is near and dear to my heart as a former school-based SLP. I am excited to be part of the process of making high quality research available to SLPs for their implementation of best practices.”
Dr. Farquharson is an Associate Professor within the School of Communication Science and Disorders, and has worked in a variety of environments. Her prior work as a school-based speech language pathologist continues to guide her research goals and projects. In addition to her work with LSHSS, she has been an active member of ASHA for many years. She currently serves as a member of the ASHA Convention Planning Committee in the area of Speech Sound Disorders, and is an ad hoc reviewer for several journals.
